Whereas most paladins are known as the blades of their deities, arbiters are the ever-watchful eyes of their deities. Well-connected and perceptive, arbiters try to discover secret crimes and insurrection where it festers, so that they may be excised swiftly from society.

Trade Tradition

If this is this character’s first level in any class, the arbiter may select a trade tradition of her choice, and have a competent trade rank.

This replaces the antipaladin’s or paladin’s normal class skills.

Skill Expertise (Ex)

The arbiter is a Trained operative, gaining skill spheres and talents as described in Using Spheres of Guile.

This replaces spells, but may be replaced by other archetypes

Interrogator (Ex)

The arbiter gains the Investigation sphere as a bonus skill sphere at 5th level, in addition to her choice of either the Communication or Faction sphere.

Watchful Glare (Su)

Whenever the arbiter uses her detect evil (for paladins) or detect good (for antipaladins) ability, she can outwit a creature whose aura she can detect as a cost to also learn one of the target’s minor motivations that they have acted upon in the past 24 hours.

This alters detect evil (for paladins) or detect good (for antipaladins).

Divine Envoy (Su)

At 5th level, instead of forming a divine bond with her weapon or a mount, an arbiter can choose to form a bond with her voice and social prowess. As a standard action, the arbiter can bind a celestial spirit to her voice for 1 minute per class level. When called, the spirit allows the arbiter’s voice to project three times as loud than normal.

At 5th level, the spirit grants one benefit, plus an additional benefit for every 3 class levels thereafter. These benefits can be spent in a number of ways to grant the arbiter enhanced social abilities, listed below:

  • Gain a +1 sacred (if a paladin) or profane (if an antipaladin) bonus to Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate checks.
  • Gain a +1 sacred (if a paladin) or profane (if an antipaladin) bonus to analyze skill checks attempted with the Investigation sphere.
  • Gain 1 temporary use of skill leverage that is lost if not used before the spirit binding ends.
  • Gain a single (analyze) talent of her choice from the Investigation sphere.
  • Gain the ability to read and speak a language.

These benefits stack and can be selected multiple times, and are determined when the spirit is called and cannot be changed until the spirit is called again. The arbiter can use this ability once per day at 5th level, plus an additional time per day for every four levels beyond 5th.

This alters divine bond.

Speaker of Divinity (Su)

At 20th level, the arbiter can choose to become the divine mouthpiece for her deity or belief. The arbiter’s damage reduction increases to 10/evil (if a paladin) or DR 10/good (if an antipaladin).

Additionally, whenever the arbiter uses her smite ability on a creature, the target must succeed at a Will saving throw (DC 10 + 1/2 her class level + her Charisma modifier) or become an open book for all to see. The arbiter may roll twice and take the highest result for all attack rolls made against the creature and to saving throws against effects originating from the creature. Additionally, any creature can get a result as if they had rolled a 20 instead of rolling on Perception and Sense Motive checks attempted against the creature for 1 minute.

This (optionally) replaces holy champion (if a paladin) or unholy champion (if an antipaladin), but may be altered or replaced by other archetypes.
