Class Features

All of the following are features of the divine exorcist prestige class.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency

A divine exorcist is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with light and medium armor, and with shields (except tower shields).

Spells

A divine exorcist casts divine spells drawn from the cleric and inquisitor spell lists. Only cleric and inquisitor spells of 4th level and lower are considered to be a part of the divine exorcist spell list. If a spell appears on both the cleric and inquisitor spell lists, the divine exorcist uses the lower of the two spell levels listed for the spell.

The divine exorcist can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, a divine exorcist must have a Wisdom score equal to at least 10 + the spell’s level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a divine exorcist’s spell is 10 + the spell’s level + the divine exorcist’s Wisdom modifier.

A divine exorcist cannot use spell completion or spell trigger magic items (without making a successful Use Magic Device check) of cleric or inquisitor spells of 5th level or higher. Her alignment may restrict her from casting certain spells opposed to her moral or ethical beliefs.

Like other spellcasters, a divine exorcist can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Divine Exorcist. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Wisdom score (see the ability score section of Chapter 1 in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook).

Like inquisitors, a divine exorcist’s selection of spells is extremely limited. Upon gaining her first level in the prestige class, a divine exorcist knows two 1st-level spells of her choice. At each new divine exorcist level, she gains one or more knew spells, as indicated on Table: Divine Exorcist. Unlike spells per day, the number of spells that a divine exorcist knows is not affected by her Wisdom score; the numbers on Table 6-2 are fixed.

At 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th level, a divine exorcist can choose to learn a new spell in place of one she already knows, provided the new spell is of the same level as the one she is replacing. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged. A divine exorcist may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that she gains new spells known for the level. A divine exorcist need not prepare her spells in advance. She can cast any spell she knows at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her spells per day for that spell level.

If the divine exorcist belonged to a divine spellcasting class prior to taking her first level in this prestige class, she can choose to gain new spells per day as if she had also gained a level in a divine spellcasting class she belonged to before adding the prestige class instead of gaining the ability to cast divine exorcist spells. She does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained, except for additional spells per day, spells known (if she is a spontaneous spellcaster), and an increased effective level of spellcasting. If a character had more than one divine spellcasting class before becoming a divine exorcist, she must decide to which class she adds the new level for purposes of determining spells per day.

Exorcist’s Judgment (Su)

A divine exorcist can pronounce judgment upon her foes as a swift action, providing a bonus or ability based upon the type of judgment made. Once activated, the ability lasts until the combat ends. If the divine exorcist is dazed, frightened, panicked, paralyzed, stunned, unconscious, or otherwise unable to participate in combat, the effect does not end but provides no benefit until she is again able to participate in combat. As a swift action, the divine exorcist is able to change her exorcist’s judgment to another type. This ability can be used once per day, plus once for every three levels beyond 1st. This ability is modified by any feat, spell, or effect that specifically works with the inquisitor’s judgment class feature; however, levels in the two classes do not stack.

Destruction

The divine exorcist gains a +1 competence bonus on attack rolls, increasing to +2 at 5th level and +3 at 10th level. This bonus is doubled against creatures with the pact subtype or that are bound to one or more spirits.

Healing

The divine exorcist recoveries her vitality quickly, gaining fast healing 1, increasing to fast healing 2 at 5th level and fast healing 3 at 10th level.

Justice

The divine exorcist is spurred to seek justice, granting a +1 profane bonus on all attack rolls, increasing to +2 at 5th level and +3 at 10th level. This bonus is doubled against creatures with the pact subtype or that are bound to one or more spirits.

Protection

A protective aura surrounds the divine exorcist, granting a +1 profane bonus to Armor Class, increasing to +2 at 5th level and +3 at 10th level.

Purity

The divine exorcist is protected from the vile taint of the supernatural, gaining a +1 profane bonus on all saving throws. This bonus increases to +2 at 5th level and +3 at 10th level. This bonus is doubled against spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities used by creatures with the pact subtype or that are bound to one or more spirits.

Wrath

The divine exorcist is surrounded by an aura of righteous wrath, granting a +1 profane bonus to the saving throw DCs of all her class features, including her spells. This bonus increases to +2 at 5th level and +3 at 10th level. This bonus is doubled against creatures with the pact subtype or that are bound to one or more spirits.

Obedience (Ex)

In order to maintain the abilities granted by this prestige class, including spellcasting, a divine exorcist must perform a daily obedience in service to her chosen organization. Additionally, a divine exorcist loses all abilities granted by this prestige class if she ever willingly seals a pact with a spirit, even using a spell such as bind spirit I†.

Esoteric Lore (Ex)

A divine exorcist engrosses herself in all manner of esoteric lore involving various religions, rites, and ceremonies so she can better locate and exterminate wicked binders. A divine exorcist adds a bonus equal to her class level to all Knowledge (religion) skill checks that she makes. Additionally, a divine exorcist is treated as though she had the bind spirit class feature when determining the DC of all Knowledge checks involving pactmaking creatures or pact magic and she can learn pact spells as though pact magic were commonplace, regardless of its availability.

Detect Pact Spirits (Sp)

Beginning at 2nd level, a divine exorcist can use detect pact spirits†, at will, as the spell. Her caster level for this spell-like ability is equal to her Hit Dice. If the divine exorcist already has the ability to cast this spell as a spell-like ability at will, her prestige class level stacks with that class’s level to determine the caster level of detect pact spirits†, and she gains Exorcist’s Scrutiny† as a bonus feat instead.

Exorcism (Sp)

At 2nd level, a divine exorcist gains the ability to force pact spirits from their mortal vessels using the power of her deity. She gains the ability to cast dismiss pact spirits† as a spell-like ability, using her Hit Dice as the caster level. She can cast this spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + her Wisdom modifier.

At 8th level, the divine exorcist can choose to use this ability to cast banish pact spirits† as a spelllike ability instead of dismiss pact spirits†.

Track (Ex)

At 2nd level, a divine exorcist adds half of her class level on Survival checks made to follow or identify tracks.

Societal Boon

As the divine exorcist gains levels, she gains boons from his chosen organization. The nature of these boons varies depending on the devotee’s chosen organization.

Each organization grants three boons, each more powerful than the last. At 3rd level, the divine exorcist gains the first boon. At 6th level, she gains the second boon, and at 9th level, she gains the third boon. Consult the Societal Obedience feat for details on societal boons. When a societal boon grants a spell-like ability, the divine exorcist caster level for the spell-like ability equals his total character level. This ability allows a divine exorcist to access these boons earlier than with the Societal Obedience feat alone; it does not grant additional uses of the boons once the character reaches the necessary Hit Dice to earn the boons normally.

Pact Bane (Su)

At 5th level, a divine exorcist can imbue one of her weapons with the pact bane† weapon special ability as a swift action. This ability only functions while the Saelendrian exorcist wields the weapon. If dropped or taken, the weapon resumes granting this ability if it is returned to the divine exorcist before the duration expires. This ability lasts for a number of rounds per day equal to the divine exorcist’s level. These rounds don’t need to be consecutive.

This ability is modified by any feat, spell, or effect that specifically works with the inquisitor’s bane class feature. For example, the Extra Bane feat grants a divine exorcist 3 additional rounds of the pact bane class feature. However, levels in the two classes do not stack.

Double Jeopardy (Su)

At 8th level, whenever a divine exorcist uses her divine judgment ability, she selects two different judgments, instead of one. This consumes only one use of her divine judgment ability. As a swift action, she can change one of these effects to another type.

Binding Judgment (Su)

At 10th level, a divine exorcist can use her powers to stop the stem of pact magic by permanently silencing those who practice it. When a divine exorcist successfully exorcises a spirit from a creature using banish pact spirits†, she can spend one use of her divine judgment ability as a swift action in order to force her target to refrain from ever sealing a pact with another spirit again or from speaking, writing, or otherwise spreading knowledge pertaining to pact lore, functioning as geas/quest. Furthermore, if the subject dies while this ability is active, the effects of this geas/quest carry on into the afterlife, preventing the creature from answering such questions from beyond the grave by means of speak with dead and similar effects.
