The simply titled “ebonmage” are a class of warlocks and magi which forgo the temptations and offers of the local divine and instead reach out towards the dark crevices of the world.
Author’s Note: This archetype thematically pairs well with the occulted visions alternate class feature for forbidden lore.
Pull From Darkness (Su)
The ebonmage’s magics reach into and beyond the void, channeling its power into absolute darkness.
At 1st level, as a free action, the ebonmage may choose to purposely suffer backlash to regain 1 use of invocation.
The ebonmage does not gain the following invocations: 1st level – lingering pain; 3rd level – empowered attack. The ebonmage instead gains the sightless invocation and ebon invocation (see below).
This ability alters invocations.
Sightless Invocation
At 1st level, when using forbidden lore, affected targets are confused for 1 round (Will negates).
At 11th level, when using forbidden lore to augment the gloom sphere ability, all targets within the affected area are confused for a number of rounds equal to the ebonmage’s Dark sphere caster level (Will negates). This confusion effect immediately ends if an affected creature leaves the gloom’s area.
Ebon Invocation
At 3rd level, when using forbidden lore to augment the gloom sphere ability, the ebonmage may add 1 additional (darkness) or (blot) to the gloom. The ebonmage must pay for any additional spell point costs for the chosen option as appropriate.
At 15th level, the ebonmage may use this invocation to add 1 (darkness) or (blot) to any sphere effect that creates a non-instantaneous area. Treat this as a separate gloom effect that occupies the augmented sphere effect’s area, which lasts for a number of rounds equal to 1/2 the ebonmage’s Dark sphere caster level.
