Empyrean Friar (Monk Archetype)

Bind Spirit: An empyrean friar may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the empyrean friar must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit for more information on this process. An empyrean friar begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1st-level spirit of his choice that belongs to his chosen constellation (see tunneled lore below).

Each day, an empyrean friar may bind one spirit to his soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual. The spirit’s level may not exceed the empyrean friar’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three monk levels thereafter, the empyrean friar’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level.

An empyrean friar possesses a binder level equal to his level. The DC to resist an empyrean friar’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the empyrean friar’s level + the empyrean friar’s Charisma modifier.

This ability replaces stunning fist, AC Bonus, fast movement, wholeness of body, and diamond soul.

Tunneled Lore: At 1st level, an empyrean friar chooses one constellation. He may only seal pacts with starless spirits and spirits belonging to his chosen constellation. All other constellations are barred to him.

Binder Secret: At 1st level, 2nd level, and every four levels attained thereafter an empyrean friar gains one binder secret, using his monk level as his effective pactmaker level when determining if he meets the binder secret’s prerequisites as well as its benefit.

A empyrean friar cannot select an alteration secret with this ability and he cannot select the Extra Binder Secret† feat unless he has levels in the pactmaker class.

This ability replaces all of the monk’s bonus feats.
