Esoteric Dilettante (Swashbuckler Archetype)

Dilettante’s Deeds: An esoteric dilettante doesn’t gain deeds like other swashbucklers. At 1st, 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th, and 19th level, an esoteric dilettante selects one deed that is available to a swashbuckler of her level or lower. She gains the selected deed, but doesn’t gain any other deeds that she would normally be entitled to based upon her swashbuckler level.

This ability alters the swashbuckler’s deeds.

Dilettante’s Panache: Each day, an esoteric dilettante gains a number of panache points equal to her Charisma modifier. Unlike other swashbucklers, an esoteric dilettante gains panache only from scoring a critical hit or killing blow against a creature that qualifies as the favored enemy of one of her bound spirits.

This ability alters the panache class feature.

Bind Spirit: An esoteric dilettante may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the esoteric dilettante must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit for more information on this process. An esoteric dilettante begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1st-level spirit of her choice.

Each day, an esoteric dilettante may bind one spirit to her soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual. The spirit’s level may not exceed the esoteric dilettante’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three swashbuckler levels thereafter, the esoteric dilettante’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level.

An esoteric dilettante possesses a binder level equal to her level. The DC to resist an esoteric dilettante’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the esoteric dilettante’s level + the esoteric dilettante’s Charisma modifier.

Dilettante’s Finesse (Ex): At 1st level, an esoteric dilettante gains the benefits of Weapon Finesse feat with light or one-handed piercing melee weapons and with all melee touch attacks that she makes. Additionally, the esoteric dilettante treats all light or one-handed melee weapons that she gains from the granted abilities of a spirit that she is currently bound to as a one-handed piercing melee weapon for all swashbuckler class abilities that require such a weapon.

This ability replaces swashbuckler’s finesse.

Bonus Feats: An esoteric dilettante may select combat feats, grit feats, and pact feats as bonus feats. Alternatively, she may select one deed available to a swashbuckler of her level or lower that she does not possess and gain it in place of a bonus feat.

This ability alters the swashbuckler’s bonus feats.

Dilettante Weapon Training (Ex): At 5th level, an esoteric dilettante gains a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with light or one-handed weapon piercing melee weapons and with any melee touch attacks that she makes. While wielding such a weapon, she gains the benefit of the Improved Critical feat. These attack and damage bonuses increase by 1 for every 4 levels beyond 5th (to a maximum of +4 at 17th level).

This ability alters swashbuckler weapon training.

Dilettante Weapon Mastery (Ex): At 20th level, when an esoteric threatens a critical hit with a light or one-handed piercing melee weapon or a melee touch attack, that critical is automatically confirmed. Furthermore, the critical modifiers of such weapons increase by 1 (x2 becomes x3, and so on).

This ability alters swashbuckler weapon mastery.
