Occultists are no strangers to binding themselves to history and artifice for power—fanebound mystics eschew the binding of beings for a more precise power. Capable of creating far more powerful ‘fanes’—localized points of power—than most, the occult power of an occultist becomes hyper-concentrated when within such a fane, and can even extend part of their own power to those that stand with them.

Trade Tradition

If this is this character’s first level in any class, the mystic may select a trade tradition of their choice, and have an adroit trade rank.

This replaces the occultist’s normal class skills.

Skill Expertise (Ex)

The fanebound mystic is a Trained operative, gaining skill spheres and talents as described in Using Spheres of Guile.

This replaces the focus powers gained at 1st, 5th, 9th, 13th, 17th level (although this does not replace the base power granted at 1st level).

Occult Knowledge

At 2nd level, the fanebound mystic gains the Occultism sphere as a bonus skill sphere.

This replaces magic item skill and object reading.

Entwined Implement

At 5th level, whenever the fanebound mystic invests mental focus into an implement for the first time in a day, he can designate a single Occultism (ritual) talent he possesses to the implement—a single (ritual) talent can be designated to multiple implements. This lasts until he next invests mental focus.

Whenever the fanebound mystic uses a ceremony or rite from the designated (ritual) talent (and has the associated implement in his possession), he gains the following benefits:

  • A +1 bonus to empowerment checks for every 3 points of mental focus invested in the implement, to a maximum bonus of 1 + 1 for every 4 occultist levels you possess.
  • At 8th level, if it was a rite, he can use a resonant power that requires the same action cost (or shorter) as part of the action required to use the rite.
  • At 12th level, the fanebound mystic can expend 2 points of mental focus invested in the implement to have the ceremony or rite not count towards his daily limit for that (ritual) talent.
  • At 16th level, the fanebound mystic can expend 2 points of mental focus invested in the implement to have any saving throws made as part of the ceremony or rite rolled twice, taking the lowest result. If a creature fails a saving throw against a ceremony or rite performed this way, they suffer 1d4 ability burn to an ability score of the fanebound mystic’s choice.

This replaces aura sight and outside contact.

Fane Forger (Su)

At 8th level, the fanebound mystic gains Fane of Power as a bonus feat.

The fanebound mystic can also create a fane of power with mental focus (generic or invested) in place of (or alongside) ritual power. If he does, his fane extends by 5 feet.

While within his fane of power, the benefits of any active resonant powers are conferred to any creature’s the fanebound mystic chooses (which can be designated as a free action) also within his fane, as though they were bearing the implement—a resonant power that requires an action to activate (such as distortion) must still be activated by the creature by spending the appropriate action.

At 12th level, the fanebound mystic can create a fane of power as a free action. While within his fane of power, he can roll any empowerment checks twice and take the highest result, and gains a +4 enhancement bonus to his Constitution and Intelligence. This increases to +6 at 16th level.

All allies within his fane of power also gain temporary hit points equal to twice the amount of ritual power (and mental focus, if any) invested into the fane of power, which last for as long as they remain within the fane of power, plus 1 round after such a creature leaves. A creature can only gain these temporary hit points once.

At 16th level, these temporary hit points increase to 3 × the amount of ritual power (and mental focus, if any) invested into the fane of power.

This replaces magic circles, binding circles, and fast circles.
