Culinary masters of the wilderness, the gourmand’s dishes are incredibly refined for their origins, offering a slice of civilization in the untamed lands; and vice versa. Gourmands can create incredibly delicious and complex meals for their allies, but also set the atmosphere that a delicious meal provides; releasing tension and providing relaxation.

Culinarian

The gourmand gains the Herbalism sphere and either the Survivalism sphere or a bonus talent in the Vocation sphere at 1st level.

This replaces survivalist.

Prepare Meal (Ex)

A gourmand has developed a large set of skills that they use in their meal preparation. At 1st level, when preparing a meal using their forage ability, the gourmand instead prepares a single appetizer and main. Abilities that affect the forage ability only affect appetizers, no other dishes within a meal.

An appetizer grants the normal benefits of the courser’s forage ability (including improvements of the ability, such as improved and exceptional foraging), depending on the terrain the gourmand is within, whereas a main generally provides combat-focused benefits. The gourmand cannot create more than one dish of the same type in a single meal. This ability otherwise functions as forage.

The gourmand may choose from the following mains:

  • Hearty Soup: This delicious broth is complimented with a variety of hearty ingredients. Creatures who eat this meal gain a +1 alchemical bonus to Fortitude saving throws and 5 temporary hit points. The bonus to saving throws increase by 1 and the temporary hit points increase by 5 for every 5 class levels they possess.
  • Nature’s Medley: A light dish made with high-energy ingredients, like assassin vine berries and owlbear eggs. Creatures who eat this meal gain a +1 alchemical bonus to Reflex saving throws and Acrobatics checks, increasing by +1 per 5 class levels they possess.
  • Seafood Platter: Typically served with owlbear egg mayonnaise and other dips, various aquatic bounties offer a more refreshing meal. Creatures who eat this main gain a +1 alchemical bonus to Will saving throws and to Knowledge checks attempted to identify a creature, increasing by +1 per 5 class levels they possess.
  • Tender Steak: A filling meal composed of a dragon or fey-portobello steak, seasoned with an assortment of herbs and spices. Creatures who eat this meal increase any natural armor bonus to AC they possess by 1, in addition to granting a +2 alchemical bonus to saving throws against fear. The alchemical bonus increases by 1 for every 5 class levels they possess.

This alters forage and replaces determined stalker and opportune stalker.

Gourmand Recipes (Ex)

The gourmand gains the following unique courser ventures. These recipes grant unique dishes and aspects to add to the gourmand’s meal preparations, including additional desserts and atmospheres. Recipes marked with an asterisk grant the gourmand additional options to add to their meals:

Aberrant Assembly* (requires gourmand 6)

As a main meal, the gourmand can prepare an eclectic assortment of somewhat alien, aberrant ingredients. Creatures who eat this meal gain a 20% chance to negate a critical hit or precision damage.

Alchemical Confectionary (requires gourmand 16)

As a dessert, the gourmand can incorporate alchemical or magical creations into their desserts. Instead of expending a Herbalism sphere tonic, the gourmand expends two identical potions, alchemical items, or similar magical consumables that has a duration longer than 1 hour. All creatures who eat this dessert gain the benefits of the expended consumable for as long as they benefit from their meal.

Greater Atmosphere (courser 4, requires Survivalism sphere)

The gourmand gains the Prepare Atmosphere talent as a bonus talent. When the gourmand uses the Prepare Atmosphere talent, it gains additional benefits depending on the atmosphere they prepare:

  • When preparing a tense atmosphere, creatures within the area also gain a +2 morale bonus to any checks attempted in response to something, such as a Spellcraft check to identify a spell, Knowledge checks to recall information, etc.
  • When preparing a relaxing atmosphere, creatures within the area double the morale bonus granted to Diplomacy checks when it is used to learn a motivation, and a -2 penalty to Intimidate checks or to any skill check attempted to inflict an adverse condition.

Heavenly Delights* (requires gourmand 8)

As an appetizer, the gourmand prepares a side dish with incredibly exotic spices and herbs, usually atop roasted fruit and vegetables. Creatures who eat this meal that receive healing (except fast healing) regain an additional number of hit points equal to the gourmand’s Wisdom modifier. The increase in healing cannot exceed the original amount of healing granted.

Mystical Salad* (requires gourmand 8)

As a main meal, the gourmand creates a vibrant assortment of specially prepared fruit and vegetables, usually using an alchemical or magical process to grant subtle enchantments to the meal. Creatures who eat this meal gain spell resistance 11 + the courser’s ranks in Profession (cook), in addition to gaining a +2 alchemical bonus to concentration checks.

Salixseed Rolls*

As an appetizer, the gourmand bakes an assortment of bread rolls using alchemical coals and salixseed. Creatures who eat this meal gain a +3 alchemical bonus to saving throws against the sickened and nauseated conditions, increasing by 1 per 4 class levels they possess.

Scaldtide Broth*

As a main meal, the gourmand prepares a complex broth using firewater ale, chopped scolus mushrooms, and an assortment of spicy herbs and ingredients. Creatures who eat this meal gain a +1 alchemical bonus to attack and damage rolls, or twice as much when making an attack of opportunity. These bonuses increase by +1 per 10 class levels they possess.

Slivercoast Pasta*

As a main meal, the gourmand prepares a thin, silvery noodle mixture with a foamy, strangely airy broth. Creatures who eat this meal gain a +1 alchemical bonus to initiative checks, and a +10-foot alchemical bonus to all movement speeds. The bonuses to initiative checks increase by 1 for every 3 class levels they possess.

Connoisseur (Ex)

At 3rd level, the gourmand adds 1/2 their level as a bonus on Profession (cook) checks, and to Perception checks attempted to detect poison in foodstuffs and drink.

Additionally, they unlock skill leverage with Profession (cook), and may spend 1 use of skill leverage when attempting to earn a wage with Profession (cook) to earn double their check result in gold pieces, instead of half their check result. Special: If the gourmand specializes in a different type of culinary preference, such as brewing alcohol or baking, they may instead choose to gain this ability’s benefits to Profession (baker), Profession (brewer) or a similar Profession check (at GM discretion).

This replaces vigilant.

Dessert Preparation (Ex)

At 8th level, the gourmand can spend an additional 10 minutes to add a dessert to their prepared meals. As part of preparing a dessert, the gourmand must expend a Herbalism sphere tonic they have created, and expend the same herbs again as part of the meal’s preparation (effectively doubling the cost of the tonic, including any twists). All creatures who eat a meal with a dessert gain the benefits of the chosen tonic for the meal’s duration (or the tonic’s duration, whichever is higher). This tonic does not count towards the maximum number of tonics a creature can benefit from at one time.

Soul Food (Ex)

At 19th level, the gourmand can prepare their meals to feed not only the stomach, but the soul as well. The gourmand can spend an additional 30 minutes preparing a meal to grant all creatures who eat the meal a +4 alchemical bonus to their Constitution and Wisdom scores, in addition to immunity to fear and poison effects.

Spirit of the Culinarian (Ex)

At 20th level, the gourmand becomes a paragon of food preparation. The gourmand can prepare a meal within 1 minute, and halves the required time to prepare other additions to their meals (such as a dessert).

Additionally, the gourmand may spend 1 day creating an ambrosia. A creature can eat this ambrosia by spending 1 minute, filling them with intense vitality and life, granting them the following benefits for 1 hour:

  • Immunity to bleed, death effects, and the nauseated, paralyzed, sickened, and stunned conditions.
  • Regeneration 10 (acid or fire).

A creature who benefits from an ambrosia cannot benefit from it again until a day has passed. The gourmand may only have a number of ambrosia created at once equal to their operative ability modifier (minimum 2); with anything created beyond this maximum being inert.

This replaces master courser.
