Typically caught in the middle of a game of chance (or swiftly running from one), grifters are as dangerous at the card table as a rogue is in a dark alleyway. Masters of gab, these con artists know of many ways to fool those they wish to swindle, and know of an equal amount of methods to escape those who catch them in the act.

Trade Tradition

If this is this character’s first level in any class, the grifter may select a trade tradition of her choice, and has an adroit trade rank.

This replaces the rogue’s normal class skills.

Skill Expertise (Ex)

The grifter is a Journeyman operative, gaining skill spheres and talents as described in Using Spheres of Guile.

This replaces the rogue talents gained at 2nd, 6th, 10th, 14th, and 18th level.

King-Hit (Ex)

The grifter is better at discouraging hostility rather than maintaining it. She can use a weapon that usually deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, and suffers no penalty when doing so. When the grifter does choose to deliver a nonlethal sneak attack, she may reroll any rolled 1s when rolling the sneak attack damage (but no damage rolls as part of the attack).

This replaces trapfinding, but may be replaced by other archetypes.

Swindler (Ex)

At 3rd level, the grifter becomes adept at the art of deception and finesse when at the table; whether it be with cards, dice, or other games of chance, the grifter knows a way to cheat her way to victory. The grifter gains a competence bonus to Profession (gambler) checks equal to half her rogue level, and may use Profession (gambler) instead of a Bluff, Intimidate, Perception, Sense Motive, or Sleight of Hand check when using such checks in a game of chance.

The grifter unlocks skill leverage with Profession (gambler), and can spend 1 use of skill leverage to use her Profession (gambler) modifier for a Sense Motive, Sleight of Hand, or Bluff check as long as she could take 10 on the check.

This replaces danger sense.

Devious Rake (Ex)

At 4th level, the grifter gains the devious technique feature of the agent class, treating her agent level as her rogue level for the purposes of its effects, in addition to applying to a successful use of her sneak attack ability.

This replaces debilitating injury.

Greater Training

The grifter may choose to lose rogue’s edge to gain a virtuoso skill talent progression instead. He may not take this option if he possesses an archetype that would alter or replace rogue’s edge.

This (optionally) replaces rogue’s edge.
