Bind Spirit: A herald of the legion may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the herald of the legion must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit in Chapter 3 for more information on this process. A herald of the legion begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1st-level spirit of his choice.
Each day, a herald of the legion may bind one spirit to his soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual in Chapter 3. This spirit’s level may not exceed the soul screamer’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three skald levels thereafter, the herald of the legion’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level.
A herald of the legion’s binder level is equal to his level. The DC to resist a herald of the legion’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the skald’s binder level + the skald’s Charisma modifier.
This ability replaces scribe scroll and the rage powers gained at 6th, 12th, and 18th levels.
Mountaintop Brigadier: At 3rd level, a herald of the legion gains Societal Obedience as a bonus feat, ignoring the feat’s prerequisites. He must choose the Mountaintop Brigade as her chosen organization.
This ability replaces the rage power gained at 3rd level.
Spirit Kenning (Su): At 5th level, a herald of the legion can attempt to use stories of the Legion’s prowess to seal a pact with a spirit whose Knowledge Tasks he has not completed. Once per day, a skald can choose any one spirit whose level is equal to his maximum spirit level or lower and attempt to seal a pact with it. For each of the spirit’s four Knowledge Tasks that he has not completed, he increases the spirit’s binding DC by 5.
At 11th level, a herald of the legion can use this ability twice per day. At 17th level, he can use this ability three times per day.
This ability replaces spell kenning.
