Blood and hair are some of the strongest reagents we have at our disposal—yet no one is willing to get their hands dirty getting it!

Covens and witches may command great magical power, but can easily be undone when cornered, so it is common for a community or cabal to have one among their number be baptized in hexfire—becoming a sentinel that employs both cruel hexcraft and cold steel.

Trade Tradition

If this is this character’s first level in any class, the hexblade can select a trade tradition of her choice, and has an adroit trade rank.

This replaces the witch’s normal class skills.

Proficiencies

Hexblades are proficient with simple weapons, as well as light armor and bucklers. In addition, if this is this character’s first level in any class, they may select a martial tradition of their choice.

This alters proficiencies.

Blended Training

The hexblade gains 1/2 of a combat or skill talent every time she gains a class level. Hexblades use their operative ability modifier as their practitioner ability modifier.

This replaces the hexes gained at 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, and 20th.

Born of Hex and Bone

At 1st level, the hexblade gains the Occultism sphere as a bonus sphere.

Diminished Spellcasting

A hexblade gains one fewer spell of each level than normal. If this reduces the number to zero, she can cast spells of that level only if her Intelligence score is high enough to grant bonus spells of that level.

Base Attack Bonus

The hexblade gains an improved base attack bonus progression, gaining 3/4 of a base attack bonus each class level instead of 1/2.

This alters base attack bonus.

Hit Dice

A hexblade uses d8 for her Hit Die.

This alters hit dice.

Hexfire (Su)

And all at once her umber skin blazed into an inferno—a flame not born of wood and heat but the blue din of a near-night sky. Strange symbols snaked through her flesh, and from them billowed a smoke so dark that one could almost imagine her gone, if not for her eyes.

At 1st level whenever the hexblade uses an Occultism sphere rite, she can choose to become wreathed in hexfire for 2 rounds—using a rite while benefitting from hexfire extends it by 1 round.

While wreathed in hexfire, she gains temporary hit points equal to twice her level and a +1 circumstance bonus to weapon attack and damage rolls. These temporary hit points are replenished each round she remains wreathed in hexfire. Plus, whenever she uses a rite while benefitting from hexfire, she can make a single weapon attack as a swift action—this includes the rite used to begin hexfire.

When hexfire ends, the hexblade cannot enter hexfire for 1 minute.

Forged Through Blood

The blade glinted in the moonlight—a cruel, sadistic looking thing—as she lashed out for another strike.

At 4th level, the hexblade gains Omen-bound Strike as a bonus feat.

For as long as the hexblade is wreathed in hexfire, the circumstance bonus to weapon attack and damage rolls increases to +2; or +3 at 11th level.

At 7th level, as long as the hexblade is wreathed in hexfire, she can expend her martial focus to use Omen-bound Strike as a swift action (which acts as a special attack action as normal).

This replaces patron spells, but may be altered or replaced by other archetypes.

Spherecasting Archetype Compatibility

If the hexblade archetype is taken with an archetype that grants spherecasting (such as Sphere Witch or Withering Witch), she can override any feature that typically replaces patron spells with the hexblade’s forged through blood ability—this includes the patron magic ability from the Sphere Witch.

Also, instead of gaining the diminished spellcasting ability, a hexblade gains less magic talents. For the aforementioned archetypes, this reduces the magic talent progression to 3/4ths of a magic talent per level.
