Hunt Master

Source: Spheres Apocrypha: Banners

While some reapers isolate themselves as they lose themselves to their bloodlust, the hunt master instead forges closer bonds with their allies. The monster-infested night is a long, cold one, and the hunt master believes that it is better spent alongside trusted companions

Martial Soul

At 1st level, a hunt master does not gain the ability to cast spells like a normal reaper. Instead, as long as the hunt master does not have the casting class feature or advanced magical training feat from any source, the hunt master gains a spell point pool equal to their hunt master level + their practitioner modifier. These spell points can only be used for reaper class features.

If the hunt master also possesses the magekiller archetype, the hunt master may use these spell points for the Counterspell feat and any feat which has Counterspell as a prerequisite. If the hunt master later gains the casting class feature or Advanced Magic Training feat, the hunt master loses this ability.

This ability replaces the casting and spell pool class features.

Combat Training

A hunt master may combine combat spheres and talents to create powerful martial techniques. Hunt masters are considered Expert combatants. When they gain their first level in the reaper class, a hunt master may choose either Charisma, Intelligence or Wisdom as their practitioner modifier.

A hunt master must select the Warleader sphere with the first talent they gain from this class.

This ability replaces blended training.

Banner (Ex)

At 2nd level, a hunt master chooses a banner with which to bolster their allies. As long as the hunt master’s banner is clearly visible, all allies within 60 feet receive a bonus depending on which banner the hunt master chooses to fly. The banner must be at least Small or larger and must be carried or displayed by the hunt master or an animal companion to function.

The banners of the hunt master come in four distinct varieties, named after things typical of more leisurely hunts than those involving monsters. A hunt master may choose between the following banners:

  • Standard of the Lucky Fox: An ally who benefits from this banner gains a +2 morale bonus to attack rolls to confirm critical hits and +1 luck bonus to saving throws against spells or traps that would move them or impede their movement. At 6th level and every four levels thereafter, these bonuses increase by +1.
  • Standard of the Stalwart Oak: An ally who benefits from this banner gains a +2 morale bonus to CMD and a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls to creatures threatening an ally. At 6th level and every four levels thereafter, the bonus to CMD increases by +1.
  • Standard of the Pack Dog: An ally who benefits from this banner gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls that benefit from flanking and a +2 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and compulsion effects. At 6th level and every four levels thereafter, the bonus to saving throws increases by +1.
  • Standard of the Swift Steed: An ally who benefits from this banner increases a movement speed of their choice by 5 feet and gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls made as part of a charge. Additionally, allies who begin a charge while benefiting from this standard do not take a penalty to their AC. At 6th level and every four levels thereafter, the bonus to speed increases by 5 feet. An ally who begins their turn in this banner’s radius retains the benefits of this banner until the end of their turn, even if they move outside the banner’s area of effect.

A hunt master can select a new banner to fly by redesigning their existing banner over an 8 hour period. This replaces the reaper techniques gained at 2nd and 12th level.

Master’s Techniques

The hunt master gains exclusive access to the following reaper techniques.

This ability alters reaper techniques.

Chasseur’s Coordination

The hunt master gains a teamwork feat as a bonus feat. They must meet the prerequisites of the feat. The hunt master may select this technique an additional time for every 4 levels they possess.

Kennel

The hunt master gains the Beastmastery sphere as a bonus talent. This technique can be selected multiple times; each time, the hunt master gains one new Beastmastery talent of their choice as a bonus talent.

Stomping Grounds

A hunt master may select a type of terrain from the ranger’s favored terrain list. The hunt master gains a +2 bonus on initiative checks and Knowledge (geography), Perception, Stealth, and Survival skill checks when they are in this terrain. A hunt master traveling through their favored terrain normally leaves no trail and cannot be tracked (though they may leave a trail he they so choose). A hunt master can change their favored terrain after spending a day in a new terrain type and adjusting their equipment over the course of an hour.

Unified Host (Ex)

At 3rd level, the hunt master begins to share their trade secrets with their close associates. As a move action, the hunt master can grant half their favored prey bonus against a single target of the appropriate type to all allies benefiting from their banner, tactics, or shouts. This bonus does not stack with any favored enemy or similar bonuses possessed by those allies; they use whichever bonus is higher. This effect lasts a number of rounds equal to the hunt master’s practitioner modifier (minimum 1). At 11th level, the hunt master grants their entire favored prey bonus to their allies, not just half, and can use this ability as a move or swift action. Additionally at 3rd level, the hunt master gains a teamwork feat as a bonus feat. They must meet the prerequisites for this feat. Whenever the hunt master shares their favored prey bonus with their allies, they can also grant one teamwork feat they possess to their allies, who retain the use of this teamwork feat for the duration of this effect. Allies do not need to meet the prerequisites of a teamwork feat granted to them with this ability.

Whenever the hunt master uses this ability, they may maintain an ongoing tactic without spending a move or swift action that turn.

This ability replaces prey casting bonus.
