Magitect (Wizard Archetype)

Diamond Spheres: Thaumic Potential
$6.99

With great knowledge of the construction and sequences of arcane theory, the magitect understands the underlying foundations of magic, and is able to manipulate that to their will.

Author's Note: Despite altering the same features, the author intended for magitect to be compatible with the Spheres of Power system. The magitect archetype can be applied to a wizard also taking the sphere wizard archetype, making the following adjustments: (1) the arcane theorem class feature replaces the sphere wizard's arcane bond and scribe scroll class features, and (2) the foundations studies feature optionally replaces the sphere wizard's sphere specialization class feature.

Trade Tradition

If this is this character’s first level in any class, the magitect may select a trade tradition of their choice, and have a competent trade rank.

This replaces the wizard’s normal class skills.

Arcane Theorem (Ex)

The magitect does not form a bond with an object or familiar, but instead delves into arcane theories and study. At 1st level, the magitect gains the Spellhacking and Study skill spheres as bonus talents. Starting at 3rd level, as a standard action, he may grant himself the benefit of any one skill talent from either of these spheres for 1 minute. The magitect may do this once per day at 3rd level, plus an additional time per day at 13th level. Multiple uses of this ability do not stack; if he uses this ability again before the previous duration has expired, it replaces the previous use.

This replaces arcane bond and the Scribe Scroll bonus feat.

Foundations Studies

The magitect gains Mystical Aptitude as a bonus feat, even if he does not meet the prerequisites. Additionally, he can choose to gain a number of breakthroughs that he can use with any theory:

  • The magitect can spend 3 notions whenever he casts a spell to increase the saving throw DC of the effect by 1.
  • At 6th level, the magitect can spend any amount of notions as a swift action to treat his ranks in the associated skills for Spellhacking and Study sphere as being an amount higher equal to the number of notions spent (maximum equal to his operative modifier) for the purposes of determining the effects of sphere abilities (except dispel checks and the DC to remove your (hack) talents) for 1 minute.
  • At 11th level, the magitect can spend up to 3 notions as part of using hack magic to decrease the action cost to do so by one step for each notion spent as part of this breakthrough (standard > move > swift > immediate).

Additionally, the magitect gains the following notions that can be applied to any theory (a specific action can only grant one notion once per round):

  • The magitect expends a spell slot of the highest or second highest level he can cast (or spends at least 2 spell points on a single sphere effect).
  • The subject of his theory fails their saving throw against a magical effect by 5 or more. At 11th level, the subject does not need to fail the save by 5 or more to gain the notion.
  • The magitect successfully uses hack magic on a magical effect originating from or a magical item attended by the subject of his theory.

This (optionally) replaces arcane school.
