Occult Bruiser (Brawler Archetype)

Bind Spirit: An occult bruiser may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the occult bruiser must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit for more information on this process. An occult bruiser begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1st-level spirit of her choice.

Each day, an occult bruiser may bind one spirit to her soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual. This spirit’s level may not exceed the occult bruiser’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three brawler levels thereafter, the occult bruiser’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level.

An occult bruiser’s binder level is equal to her level. The DC to resist an occult bruiser’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the occult bruiser’s binder level + the occult bruiser’s Charisma modifier. This ability replaces martial training.

Occult Flexibility (Su): An occult bruiser can take a move action to gain one minor granted ability belonging to a spirit whose Knowledge Tasks she has completed and that she isn’t currently bound to. While doing so, she is forced to show the physical sign and personality influence of any spirits whose granted abilities she gains while using this ability. This effect lasts 1 minute, but any penalties accrued from disobeying a personality influence imparted onto the binder using this ability remains for 24 hours, as usual for such penalties. The occult bruiser may use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + 1/2 her brawler level (minimum 1). The occult bruiser can use this ability again before the duration expires in order to replace the previous granted ability with another choice.

If a granted ability has a daily use limitation, any uses of that granted ability while using this ability count towards that granted ability’s daily limit.

At 6th level, an occult bruiser can tap into greater occult power when she uses occult flexibility. She may select one minor granted ability as a swift action or two minor granted abilities as a move action. If she selects two minor granted abilities, they need not be from the same spirit. Each individual granted ability selected counts towards her daily uses of this ability.

At 10th level, an occult bruiser can use occult flexibility to select one minor granted ability as a free action, two minor granted abilities as a swift action, or three minor granted abilities as a move action. These granted abilities need not be from the same spirit. Each individual granted ability selected counts towards her daily use of this ability.

At 12th level, an occult bruiser can use occult flexibility to gain the benefit of one minor granted ability as an immediate action or three minor granted abilities as a swift action. Each individual granted ability selected counts towards her daily uses of this ability.

At 20th level, an occult bruiser can use this ability to gain the benefit of any number of minor granted abilities as a swift action. Each minor granted ability selected counts towards her daily use of this ability.

This ability replaces martial flexibility.

Unarmed Strike: An occult bruiser’s unarmed strike damage does not increase at 4th level and above and she does not gain the close weapon mastery class feature.

Binder Secret: Beginning at 2nd level, an occult bruiser may select a binder secret, in place of a bonus feat. The occult bruiser must meet the binder secret’s prerequisites, if any, but her brawler level stacks with any pactmaker levels she possesses when determining if she meets a binder secret’s prerequisites.

This ability alters the brawler’s bonus feats.
