Occult Shaman (Shaman Archetype)

Bind Spirit: An occult shaman may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the occult shaman must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit for more information on this process. An occult shaman begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1st-level spirit of her choice.

Each day, an occult shaman may bind one spirit to her soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual. The spirit’s level may not exceed the occult shaman’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three shaman levels thereafter, the occult shaman’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level.

An occult shaman possesses a binder level equal to her level. The DC to resist a spirit soothsayer’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the occult shaman’s level + the occult shaman’s Charisma modifier.

This ability replaces the shaman’s spirit ability, greater spirit ability, and true spirit ability.

Spirit Animal: An occult shaman’s spirit animal is inscribed with the seals of every such Knowledge Task that the shaman has completed. A shaman must commune with her spirit animal in order to seal a pact with a spirit. If her spirit animal is slain, the shaman’s pact immediately ends as if she had willingly expelled the spirit using Expel Spirit.

This ability alters spirit animal.

Tunneled Lore (Su): At 1st level, an occult shaman chooses the one constellation. She may only seal pacts with starless spirits and spirits belonging to her chosen constellation. All other constellations are barred to her.

Hex: An occult shaman selects a new hex at 4th level and every two levels thereafter.

This ability alters hex and replaces wandering hex.

Wandering Pact (Su): At 4th level, an occult shaman can seal a temporary pact with a second spirit as an immediate action. The occult shaman must complete all of the Knowledge Tasks of a spirit before she can seal a pact with it using this ability. When sealing a pact with a wandering occult spirit, the occult shaman doesn’t need to draw a seal, perform a ceremony, or make a binding check. The pact is always a poor pact and lasts for 1 round per binder level she possesses. During this pact, the occult shaman only gains the chosen spirit’s major granted ability; if the spirit has multiple major granted abilities, she chooses one to gain when using wandering pact. An occult shaman can use this ability once per day at 4th level, plus one additional time per day at 12th level and at 20th level.

This ability replaces wandering spirit.
