Pactsworn Knight (Cavalier Archetype)

Class Skills: Add Knowledge (arcana) (Int), Knowledge (history) (Int), Knowledge (planes) (Int), and Knowledge (religion) (Int) to the cavalier’s list of class skills.

This replaces the cavalier’s skill bonus from his order. The cavalier does not receive class skills or bonuses on skill checks from his order, nor does he gain any other benefits associated with his cavalier order’s skills (such as the order of the cockatrice’s ability to add the cavalier’s Charisma modifier to the DC of Intimidate skill checks made to demoralize him).

Bind Spirit: A pactsworn knight may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the pactsworn knight must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit for more information on this process. A pactsworn knight begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1stlevel spirit of his choice that belongs to his chosen constellation (see tunneled lore below).

Each day, a pactsworn knight may bind one spirit to his soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual. This spirit’s level may not exceed the pactsworn knight’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three cavalier levels thereafter, the pactsworn knight’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level.

A pactsworn knight’s binder level is equal to his level. The DC to resist a pactsworn knight’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the pactsworn knight’s binder level + the pactsworn knight’s Charisma modifier.

This ability replaces mount.

Order: A pactsworn knight does not gain his order’s challenge bonus when issuing a challenge.

This ability modifies the cavalier’s order.

Tunneled Lore: At 1st level, a pactsworn knight chooses one constellation. He may only seal pacts with starless spirits and spirits belonging to his chosen constellation. All other constellations are barred to him.

Expert Binder: At 4th level, a pactsworn knight gains one binder secret, as the pactmaker class feature. He uses his cavalier level as his effective pactmaker level to determine if he meets the prerequisites of this binder secret as well as its benefit, and he must meet the secret’s prerequisites. In addition, whenever a pactsworn knight gains a bonus feat, he may select a combat feat, a pact feat, or a binder secret.

This ability alters the cavalier’s bonus feats and replaces expert trainer.
