Shadow Templar (Paladin/Antipaladin Archetype)

The Shadow Templars were an order of paladins founded to expunge pact magic from the world.

Class Skills: Add Knowledge (arcana) (Int) and Knowledge (planes) (Int) to the paladin’s (or antipaladin’s) list of class skills. Remove Heal (Wis) and Knowledge (nobility) (Int) from the paladin’s (or antipaladin’s) list of class skills.

Smite Occult (Su): Once per day, a shadow templar can call out to divine to aid her in her struggle against practitioners of the occult. As a swift action, the shadow templar chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is bound to a spirit or possesses the occult subtype, the shadow templar adds her Charisma bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin (or antipaladin) level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. Smite occult attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.

In addition, while smite occult is in effect, the shadow templar gains a deflection bonus equal to her Charisma modifier (if any) to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If the shadow templar targets a creature that is not bound to a spirit or does not possess occult powers, the smite is wasted with no effect.

The smite occult effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the shadow templar rests and regains her uses of this ability. At 4th level and every three levels thereafter, the shadow templar may smite occult one additional time per day, to a maximum of seven times per day at 19th level.

For paladins, this ability alters smite evil. For antipaladins, this ability alters smite good.

Protection Against Spirits (Sp): At 3rd level, a shadow templar can protect herself and her allies from occult powers, as protection from spirits†, for a number of minutes per day equal to her paladin (or antipaladin) level. These minutes do not need to be consecutive, but they must be used in 1-minute increments.

For paladins, this ability replaces divine health. For antipaladins, this ability replaces plaguebringer.

Dismiss Pact Spirits (Sp): At 4th level, a shadow templar can spend two uses of lay on hands or two minutes of protection against spirits† in order to attempt to cast a spirit or possessing agent out of a creature, as dismiss pact spirit†.

For paladins, this ability replaces channel positive energy. For antipaladins, this ability replaces channel negative energy.

Code of Conduct: Any action that results in the extermination of binders or the destruction of occult lore does not infringe upon a shadow templar’s code of conduct.
