Soul Muse (Bard Archetype)

Bind Spirit: A soul muse may seal pacts with otherworldly entities known as spirits. In order to summon a spirit, the soul muse must learn the spirit’s ceremony, constellation, personality, and seal by completing its four Knowledge Tasks; see Researching the Spirit for more information on this process. A soul muse begins play having completed all four Knowledge Tasks for one 1st-level spirit of his choice that belongs to one of his chosen constellations (see tunneled musing below).

Each day, a soul muse may bind one spirit to his soul using pact magic; see Performing a Pact Ritual. This spirit’s level may not exceed the soul muse’s maximum spirit level, which is limited to 1st-level spirits at 1st level. At 4th level and every three bard levels thereafter, the soul muse’s maximum spirit level increases by 1, to a maximum of 6th-level spirits at 16th level. A soul muse’s binder level is equal to his level. The DC to resist a soul muse’s supernatural powers is equal to 10 + 1/2 the soul muse’s binder level + the soul muse’s Charisma modifier.

This ability replaces bardic knowledge.

Diminished Spellcasting: A soul muse possesses 1 fewer spell per day at each spell level. A soul muse who would receive 0 spells per day only receives bonus spells earned at that level as a result of a high Charisma score. Additionally, the soul muse receives one fewer spell known at each spell level (including orisons) than is presented on Table: Bard Spells Known in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Core Rulebook.

Tunneled Musing: At 1st level, a soul muse chooses one constellation. He may only seal pacts with starless spirits and spirits belonging to his chosen constellation. All other constellations are barred to him. Additionally, a soul muse may seal pacts with spirits that are associated with any bardic masterpiece that he knows as if they belonged to his chosen constellation. This ability counts as having the tunneled lore class feature for the purpose of meeting binder secret and feat prerequisites.

Soul Musing (Ex): At 2nd level, a soul muse can choose one type of Perform skill. He can make checks with his selected Perform skill in place of binder level checks when attempting to seal a pact with a spirit that belongs to the constellation he selected with the tunneled musing class feature.

This ability replaces the bard’s first versatile performance.

Binder Secret: Beginning at 6th level, a soul muse may select a binder secret in place of a versatile performance. The soul muse’s level stacks with any pactmaker levels he possesses for the purpose of meeting the prerequisites for binder secrets.

This replaces the versatile performance the soul muse gives up for this binder secret.
