Starchild (Druid Archetype)

Peace, love, unity, and spiritual oneness. This is the creed of the starchildren, a subculture of druids who practice a liberated lifestyle and seek to expand their minds through spiritual practices.

Requirement: Unlike ordinary druids, starchilds must be Chaotic Good

World Bond (Ex): At 1st level, the starchild’s ever expanding oneness with the world and her love for all her people manifests with a small representation of the love the world feels for her. This creature, known as a dreamchild, is a being of pure joy, freedom, and love. It appears as a child-sized, humanoid creature whose features are obscured by the ever changing mass of swirling psychedelic colors and patterns. This functions like a druid’s animal companion (part of the nature bond class feature) though she may only select the following animal companion.

This ability replaces nature bond.

SPECIAL:

  • SOUL HUG: This is a slam attack that deals love damage (see the dynamancer’s entry in this book).
  • PSYCHEDELIC: A dreamchild sheds light like a torch in an ever changing array of colors. In addition, the dreamchild can cast color spray once per day as spell-like ability using its master’s starchild level as its caster level.

Spells: A starchild adds the following spells to her spell list: confusion (3rd), minor creation (4th), commune (5th), dream (5th), major creation (5th), ethereal jaunt (7th), create demiplane (8th), astral projection (9th). She loses the following spells from her spell list: diminish plants (3rd), blight (4th), baleful polymorph (5th), insect plague (5th), fire storm (7th), storm of vengeance (9th). In addition, all instance of the “summon nature’s ally ” spell are replaced with the equivalent “summon monster” spell.

Animate Dreams (Su): A starchild’s mind is like an inner universe, bubbling with esoteric and exotic concepts due to the expansion of her consciousness. Things tend to leap forth from her mind, warping and distorting reality randomly. On the superficial level, this may cause innocuous things like paintings to temporarily shift to reflect what she dreamed about the night before, mirrors to show her as she appeared in a dream, or even people’s faces to temporarily appear like figures from a recent dream.

A starchild can also animate her dreams, giving them subtle form in the world around them. This bright, bizarre, and psychedelic imagery magically lifts the spirits of her companions or alters their enemy’s perception of reality. This functions as per the bardic performance class feature of the bard, using her starchild level in place of her bard level. Rather than having audible components, visual component, a starchild must be under the influence of some sort of mind altering chemical (typically a hallucinogen) and may be required to make a Concentration checks.

A starchild gains access to the following bardic performances when a bard of her level would normally gain access to them: distraction, fascinate, inspire courage, dirge of doom, soothing performance, frightening tune, and deadly performance.

This replaces the druid’s wild shape class feature.

Brew Potion (Ex): At 2nd level, the starchild receives Brew Potion as a bonus feat.

This replaces the druid’s woodland stride class feature.
