Symbol Of Valor (Vigilante Archetype)

Source: Spheres Apocrypha: Banners

While other vigilantes may work alone in their quest for justice, a symbol of valor believes that a recognizable and personable hero can inspire others to pursue that same goal. Many such heroes even neglect to completely obscure their face, relying more on circumstance than disguise to separate their identities.

Proficiencies

Symbols of valor are proficient with simple weapons, as well as light armor and bucklers. In addition, if this is this character’s first level in any class, they may select a martial tradition of their choice.

This modifies weapon and armor proficiencies.

Combat Training

A symbol of valor is considered a Proficient practitioner, gaining spheres and talents as appropriate. Symbols of valor use Charisma as their practitioner modifier.

This replaces the vigilante specialization class feature.

Courageous Cape (Ex)

At 1st level, a symbol of valor’s presence serves to inspire his allies, a fact exemplified most in the flashiness of his cape. As long as the symbol of valor is clearly visible in his vigilante identity, all allies within a radius of 10 feet + 5 feet per class level receive a +2 morale bonus on saving throws against fear and a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls to creatures threatening another ally. At 5th level, and every five levels thereafter, these bonuses increase by +1. This counts as the banner class feature.

This replaces seamless guise.

Undaunted Unit (Ex)

At 20th level, a symbol of valor brings out the boldness hidden in the hearts of his allies. Whenever his cape is visible, allies benefiting from his cape gain an immunity to fear effects. If a symbol of valor or any of his allies benefiting from his cape receive a morale bonus of any kind, including those from his courageous cape ability, that bonus increases by +2. Once per day, the symbol of valor can expend his martial focus as a standard action to shout inspiring words at his allies, causing all affected morale bonuses to increase by an amount equal to his Charisma modifier (minimum +3) instead of +2 for one minute.

This replaces vengeance strike.

Greater Training

A symbol of valor may choose to lose startling appearance, frightening appearance, and stunning appearance to become an Adept practitioner, gaining spheres and talents as appropriate. He may not take this option if possessing an archetype that would alter or replace those features.

Symbol of Valor Talents

A symbol of valor can select from any of the following social and vigilante talents, in addition to general talents.

This alters vigilante talents.

Social Talents

Near-Seamless Guise (Ex)

The symbol of valor may not be as skilled as other vigilantes at hiding his identity, but he can use his charm to his advantage. Should anyone suspect the symbol of valor of being anything other than what he appears to be in his social or vigilante identity, he can attempt a Bluff or Disguise check with a +10 circumstance bonus to appear as his current identity, not his other identity.

Supporting Cast (Ex)

The symbol of valor’s personal magnetism draws in a retinue of loyal aides. The symbol of valor gains the Leadership sphere, selecting the (follower) package as a bonus talent. If he already possesses the Leadership sphere but not the (follower) package, he gains Expanded Leadership to gain the package. If the symbol of valor already possesses the (follower) package, he gains a (follower) talent of his choice. This talent can be selected multiple times; each time, the symbol of valor gains one new Leadership talent of his choice as a bonus talent.

A symbol of valor who possesses the loyal aid social talent also gains Base Of Operations (followers) as a bonus talent, selecting his area of renown as one of the settlements he is familiar with for the purposes of the talent.

Vigilante Talents

Adventurers Assemble! (Ex)

The symbol of valor gains one of the following (squadron) feats as a bonus feat: Infantry Formation, Lightning Tactics, Mobile Tactics, Troop Commander, or Pincer Formation. He must meet the feat’s prerequisites. This talent can be selected multiple times; each time, the symbol of valor gains a new feat from the above list.

Caped Commander (Ex)

The symbol of valor’s allies are a close-knit group, united under his cause. The symbol of valor gains the Warleader sphere as a bonus talent. This talent can be selected multiple times; each time, the symbol of valor gains one new Warleader talent of his choice as a bonus talent.

Collaborating Crusader (Ex)

The symbol of valor’s presence inspires his allies to overcome their differences and work together. He gains a teamwork feat that he qualifies for as a bonus feat. As a move action, the symbol of valor can share this teamwork feat, or any other teamwork feat he possesses, with any ally currently benefiting from his cape, even if they do not qualify for it. The symbol of valor can share one teamwork feat at a time. At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels, the vigilante can share an additional teamwork feat with his allies. His allies retain any feats shared this way for a number of rounds equal to his Charisma modifier. This talent can be selected multiple times; each time, the symbol of valor gains a new teamwork feat.

Liberating Flourish (Ex)

With a pose and a shout, the symbol of valor can rally his allies and break them out of their bonds. He can spend a standard action to flourish his cape behind him, granting all allies other than himself that benefit from his banner an additional saving throw against any one spell or effect that they are currently suffering from. This save is made at the original DC. Spells and effects that do not allow saving throws are unaffected by this ability. Poison and disease effects that can worsen on a failed saving throw do not count this saving throw as a failure when determining such effects if it is unsuccessful. A symbol of valor can use this ability a number of times per day equal to his Charisma modifier.

The symbol of valor can expend his martial focus as an immediate action to use this ability in response to another ally that benefits from his banner failing a saving throw, granting them a +5 morale bonus to the roll. The bonus can change the result of the failed ally’s saving throw if the bonus is sufficient to meet the original DC required. A symbol of valor must be at least 12th level to select this talent.

Hand of Justice

Whenever the symbol of valor gains a new vigilante talent, he may select from talents normally restricted to the avenger vigilante specialization, as long as he meets all other prerequisites.
