Special Abilities

-Favored Class Bonus: +1 Skill Point


-Get a Guided Amulet of Mighty Fists as soon as possible. This will let you use your Wisdom score for your Natural Attacks, and that's critical for making you more effective. Incidentally, said natural attacks mainly come from shapeshifting. Until you get that, consider compensating by just making LOTS of attacks.

-The following are good talents to get next:

  • Avian: The most valuable part of this package is the ability to grant flight to any of your forms.
  • Dragon: The breath weapon here is great - it lets you get a decent elemental attack at-range, and you can apply it to your other forms. Note that Dragon Form doesn't innately have wings.
  • Elemental: The Trait here is useful but not amazing. What matters is that this form can get you ANYWHERE. Need to get somewhere high? Air Elemental. Need to go underwater? Water Elemental. Stymied by rocks? Earth Elemental. (You're not immune to fire, but you can usually go around fires anyway, and how often does that even come up unless the players start it?)

-Pick up the Protection Sphere in a few levels, with the Protected Soul drawback. This lets you grab Armored Magic right away, which will quickly get you an all-day armor bonus that won't vanish when you Shapeshift. The Magical Signs drawback gives you bonus Spell Points you can use for this exact purpose.

-Next level, you're going to get your first Bestial Trait. You can keep these when you transform, and they don't count against your normal limit. Consider grabbing some extra attacks (like Claws) or some improved natural armor - stuff you're gonna find helpful all the time.

-As a powerful natural attacker, you'll want to eventually pick up Power Attack.

-If you find yourself needing damage, pick up the Destruction Sphere, the Energy Blade Talent, the Improved Energy Blade feat, and the Melee Blaster feat. This will let you spend a Swift Action to add your Destructive Blast's damage to your next successful attack, and without provoking an Attack of Opportunity when you do it.

-For added transformation utility, you can pick up the Mimicry talent at some point. This requires you to have seen a creature (so ask your GM about what animals are in an area to be seen), and can greatly expand your options in any given area. This can be done at first level (in place of Animalistic Transformation) if your GM is cooperative enough about letting you see other creatures.


-The Lycanthropic Drawback limits your use of Alteration to yourself.

-This character only has one normal drawback - Magical Signs, which makes it quite obvious when they're transforming (and let's face it, shapeshifting is pretty obvious to begin with, so it's not much of a drawback). You can take other drawbacks if you'd like, but remember that it may be hard to use things like Somatic Casting with some forms.

-Beast Soul is an optional drawback. It won't let you have a Blank Form (and the conveniences it offers), but it WILL give you another talent you can use on one of the other transformation powers. Note that you can pay off this Drawback later, if you find it's too much of a problem.

-Remember your action economy. You can save Spell Points by concentrating on your transformation as a Move Action (at higher levels, it'll linger a bit, and that helps)

-This character only has one trait, so you can select whichever Campaign Trait (or normal trait, if you're not running an AP) fits.

-Improved Initiative (Feat) and Reactionary (trait) help you go first. Use this time to shift into whatever form you need for a given encounter.

-The true power of the Master of Many Forms is its adaptability. In a short period of time, you'll be able to take whatever shape is least convenient for the kind of foes you're fighting, and if used intelligently, you'll be very tough indeed. Just don't abuse this too much, or your GM will get mad at you.

-Greater Transformation allows you to apply an extra trait to your shapeshifted form. Right now, you can apply two traits. Use them wisely.

-Your only starting form is Animalistic. As you gain each type of form, memorize their shapes and what you can add to them. The rest of the table won't want to just sit there bored as you calculate things, so consider making notecards or something with your preferred shapeshifts.
