Weapon and Armor Proficiency

An undying soul gains no new proficiencies with weapons or armor.

Bind Spirit

Levels in the undying soul prestige class stack with the character’s binder level for all purposes, including binding checks, calculating the effectiveness of granted abilities, and determining the character’s maximum spirit level. If the undying soul possesses levels of pactmaker, half of the class’s level stacks with pactmaker levels to determine the number of spirits that the character can bind with at once.

Occult Buffet (Su)

As a swift action, the undying soul can surround one creature within 100 feet with chaotic, occult energy. This energy buffets the target, hampering its attacks. The target takes a penalty on attack rolls and to the saving throw DC of all of its spells and abilities equal to the undying soul’s class level unless the attack, spell, or ability targets the undying soul or includes him within its targeted area. This ability doesn’t penalize the attack rolls or saving throw DCs of poison, diseases, and other, similar effects that are the result of a successful attack roll or spell effect.

An undying soul may only target one creature with this ability at once; targeting a new, second creature ends the penalties for the first target. The penalties last for 1 minute per class level, or until either the undying soul or the targeted creature dies.

Undying Defiance (Ex)

While the undying soul is bound to a spirit, its influences allow him to defy death itself. As long as the undying soul isn’t helpless, all hit point damage that the undying soul takes is stored within a defiance pool instead of being immediately subtracted from his hit points. Damage reduction, energy resistance, temporary hit points, and similar defenses are taken into account before damage is stored within the defiant pool. At the end of each round, half of the damage stored within the undying soul’s defiance pool is immediately removed and subtracted from his current hit points; this damage cannot be prevented, reduced, or transferred to another creature by any means. An undying soul’s defiance pool can hold a total number of hit points of damage equal to the undying soul’s class level x 10; any excess damage is subtracted from his hit points as usual. Hit point damage lost from Constitution damage or drain cannot be transferred into the defiance pool.

Combat Vigor (Ex)

An undying soul can make a number of attacks of opportunity each round equal to 1 + his Constitution modifier. Combat Reflexes does not allow the undying soul to add his Dexterity bonus to this total, but it still allows him to make attacks of opportunity while flatfooted.

Behemoth Physique (Su)

While bound to a spirit, the undying soul’s physique is empowered by occult energies, granting him immunity to potentially devastating conditions.

Starting at 2nd level the undying soul becomes immune to all diseases and he can exist comfortably in temperature extremes between –40° F and 140° F, as endure elements.

At 4th level, the undying soul becomes immune to all poisons and the sickened condition.

At 6th level the undying soul becomes immune to the dazzled, dazed, and fatigue conditions.

At 8th level the undying soul becomes immune to bleed damage and the blinded, deafened, exhausted, and nauseated conditions.

At 10th level the undying soul becomes immune to the paralyzed, petrified, and staggered conditions. A 10th level undying soul isn’t staggered when he has 0 or fewer hit points and can act normally.

Undying Technique (Su)

At 3rd level and every two levels thereafter, an undying soul learns a technique that draws upon the power of their own strength of resolve and defiance. Each technique can only be selected once.

Defiant Dodge

While an undying soul with this technique has 10 or more hit points in his defiance pool, he gains a +1 dodge bonus to his AC. For every 10 additional hit points in his defiance pool, this dodge bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +5.

Defiant Meditation

An undying soul with this talent can use mindfulness to stave off wounds he has accrued as a swift action, reducing the number of hit points that are currently in his defiance pool by 1d8 + his prestige class level. An undying soul can use this technique a number of times per day equal to 3 + half his class level.

Defiant Persistence

While an undying soul with this technique has 10 or more hit points in his defiance pool, he adds +1 to all healing he receives from magical sources, except fast healing and regeneration. This bonus increases by +1 for every 10 additional hit points in the undying soul’s defiance pool, to a maximum of +5.

Defiant Protection

An undying soul with this technique can select one ally within 30 feet to be his ward as a swift action. As long as this ally remains within 30 feet of the undying soul, hit point damage it suffers up to the undying soul’s class level is stored within the undying soul’s defiance pool instead of being subtracted from the ally’s hit points. An undying soul may only have one ward at a time; choosing a new ward ends this effect for the previous one.

Defiant Recovery

An undying soul with this technique can sacrifice his vitality to help a bound spirit recover its powers faster. As a swift action, the undying soul selects one spirit that he is bound to whose major granted ability is expended. He can add 10 hit points to his defiance pool to reduce the number of rounds that the spirit’s major granted ability is expended for by 1 round. At 3rd level and every three levels thereafter, the undying soul can add an additional 10 hit points to his defiance pool to reduce the number of rounds that his major granted ability is expended for by 1 additional round, to a maximum of 40 hit points added to his defiance pool for a reduction of 4 rounds.

The undying soul cannot use this ability if his defiance pool is full and if hit point damage added by this ability would exceed his defiance pool’s maximum, the number of rounds that his major granted ability is expended for isn’t reduced (but he still adds the hit point damage to his defiance pool normally). After using this technique, it becomes expended for 5 rounds.

Defiant Reflexes

While an undying soul with this technique has 10 or more hit points in his defiance pool, he gains a +1 insight bonus on Reflex saving throws. For every 10 additional hit points in his defiance pool, this insight bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +5.

Defiant Resolve

While an undying soul with this talent has 10 or more hit points in his defiance pool, he gains a +1 insight bonus on Fortitude saving throws. For every 10 additional hit points in his defiance pool, this insight bonus increases by +1, up to a maximum of +5.

Defiant Surge

An undying soul with this technique can use his defiance pool to help him succeed against enemy attacks. As an immediate action, an undying soul can increase his defiance pool by 10 hit points when he is required to make a saving throw to roll twice and use the better result. Alternatively, he may use this ability after he makes the saving throw but before the result is revealed to reroll the saving throw and use the new result, even if its worse. An undying soul can’t use this ability if using it would cause him to exceed his defiance pool’s maximum hit point total.

Defiant Vengeance

While an undying soul with this talent has 10 or more hit points in his defiance pool, he gains a +1 insight bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls. For every 10 additional hit points in his defiance pool, this insight bonus increases by +1, up to a maximum of +5.

Defiant Zeal

While an undying soul with this talent has 10 or more hit points in his defiance pool, he gains a +1 insight bonus on Will saving throws. For every 10 additional hit points in his defiance pool, this insight bonus increases by +1, up to a maximum of +5.

Occult Juggernaut (Su)

At 10th level, the undying soul becomes nigh unstoppable. The undying soul becomes immune to nonlethal damage and death effects and the number of negative hit points the undying soul may accrue before dying increases by an amount equal to twice his level.
