Divination Sphere Alternate Divination

Divine Akasha [3PP]

If you possess the Veilweaving sphere, you may divine the locations of creatures that possess essence, the amount of essence they possess, and how much essence they have invested in each of their essence receptacles. If such a creature has shaped veils, you immediately learn of each of their veils shaped, their properties, and how much essence they have invested in each veil.

Veilweaving Sphere

You can tap into the powers of the akashic library, using your magic to bind veils of magical construction to your body and to infuse them with your power. Further deepening your devotion to this sphere of magic can allow you to better manipulate the veils you shape, utilize essence to empower your other abilities, and even use your essence to disrupt your foes.

Veilweaving

You count your combined levels in your casting classes and any veilweaving classes as your veilweaving level and your casting ability modifier as your veilweaving modifier for the purposes of the veils you shape, abilities that determine their effects based on your veilweaving level, and for acquiring and utilizing akashic feats. You also count as having levels in a veilweaving class when you take this sphere for the purposes of abilities and feats that require you to have levels in such a class. If a single class is both a veilweaver and a casting class at the same time it only counts as a single level in a veilweaving class for these purposes.

Known Veils

When you gain this sphere, you immediately learn a veil of your choice. This veil must be able to be shaped in one of the following chakra slots: Belt, Body, Chest, Feet, Hands, Head, Headband, Neck, Shoulders, or Wrists.

Shape Veil

When you rest to recover your spell points for the day, you can choose to shape a single veil you know. This follows the normal rules for shaping veils (you can only shape a single veil in any slot).

If you are able to bind that veil to the chakra you shaped it to, you may bind that veil as part of this process. You can shape veils to the following chakra slots: Belt, Body, Chest, Feet, Hands, Head, Headband, Neck, Shoulders, or Wrists. Shaping veils, and the veils you shape using this sphere do not count as sphere effects for any purposes.

If you take this sphere on a character who can shape veils from a non-sphere source (such as a base-class veilweaver like vizier), this ability does not increase the maximum number of veils you may shape each day. This restriction does not apply if you only have the ability to shape a specific veil from a racial trait or class feature, or a subset of veils from a class feature, such as the sphere daevic’s passions class feature or the stormbound’s stormweaving ability.

Condense and Draw Essence

As a swift action, you can spend any number of spell points to gain half that many points of temporary essence (rounded down, minimum 0). You may only ever have a total amount of temporary essence using this ability at any time equal to your caster level with this sphere. These points of temporary essence persist until you rest to recover your spell points.

Additionally, as a swift action, you can choose to burn any number of points of temporary essence granted by this ability to gain a number of temporary spell points equal to the amount of temporary essence burned. These temporary spell points last for 1 minute.

Essence Capacity

Your veils and essence receptacles gained through this sphere have a maximum amount of essence that can be invested into them, based on your character level. This maximum may be increased by talents, feats, or magic items.
Character Level Essence Capacity
0 - 5 1
6 - 11 2
12 - 17 3
18 - 20 4

Additional Talent Types

Essence

For each (essence) talent you take, you gain a single point of essence in addition to the normal effects of the talent. Most (essence) talents allow you to invest essence in them for a greater effect, in those cases, an (essence) talent has the same essence capacity as a veil you could shape using this sphere.

Associated Veilweaving Feats

Some talents presented in this sphere overlap the function of existing feats. Such a feat is listed in the talent as an associated feat. Talents with associated feats allow a character to qualify for feats that have the associated feat as a prerequisite, including any prerequisites the associated feat normally requires. Unless noted, talents do not stack with their associated feats. If you have the Veilweaving sphere and would gain an associated veilweaving feat, you may instead choose to gain the talent it is associated with. You must still meet the prerequisites for a talent gained this way.

Basic Talents with Prerequisites

Some basic talents of the Veilweaving sphere possess prerequisites that must be met before they can be selected. These talents are not advanced talents, despite only advanced talents normally having prerequisites. A caster cannot use temporary increases to caster level, such as those provided by an implement, to qualify for basic talents with a caster level prerequisite.

Veilweaving Talents

Enhanced Capacity

When you rest to recover your spell points for the day, choose one essence receptacle such as a veil, a talent that can be invested, a magic item designed to contain essence, or a class feature. Your essence capacity for that receptacle is increased by 1. Each time you rest to recover spell points, you can change the receptacle that benefits from this talent.

You may take this talent an additional time at 7th caster level and every 6 caster levels thereafter. Each time you take this talent, you can apply its effects to one additional receptacle while shaping your veils. You can’t apply this talent’s effects more than once to the same receptacle. Associated feat: Enhanced Capacity.

Shared Veil

When you shape your veils for the day you can choose to shape a single one of your veils onto an ally in Close range of you, instead of on yourself. You can change which ally this veil is shaped to as a standard action as long the new target is within Close range of you. If the ally leaves an area within Close range of you, it loses the benefits of the veil shaped to it until it returns within range of you. The ally gains the benefits of any essence you have invested in the shared veil. The ally must have the chakra slot for this shared veil available, or else it cannot be shared with that ally. You cannot bind a veil shared with an ally with this talent, even if you or the ally could normally bind veils of the shared veils chakra slot.

This talent can be selected additional times, allowing you to share an additional veil each day for each selection after the first. Associated feat: Shared Veil.

Shift Veil

By spending 1 spell point as a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity, you can unshape one of your existing veils and instantly reshape the released energy into a new veil you know. The veil you shape using this ability cannot be bound to a chakra until you have spent one hour in meditation, even if the veil you unshaped was already bound.

Sphereshaper’s Talent

When you shape your veils for the day, choose a single veil you shaped that grants you a sphere. You gain a talent of your choice associated with that sphere that you meet the prerequisites for. This talent counts as a talent granted by that veil for all purposes. If that veil is unshaped, you lose this talent until you rest and reshape your veils for the day.

If you used the Shift Veil talent (or a similar ability) to unshape that veil, if the new veil also grants a sphere you may gain a talent from that sphere. You may take this talent multiple times, allowing you to gain a talent for each time it is selected. You may select the same veil multiple times or may select a different veil for each time you have selected this talent. Associated feat: Sphereshaper’s Talent.

Veil Knowledge

You learn one additional veil of your choice. If you do not have a (tradition) talent, you learn an additional veil plus one additional veil per 5 caster levels. These veils must be able to be shaped in one of the following chakra slots: Belt, Body, Chest, Feet, Hands, Head, Headband, Neck, Shoulders, or Wrists. You make take this talent additional times, learning an additional veil each time you select it. If you take a (tradition) talent, select one veil learned from this talent for each time you have selected it. You lose knowledge of the veils you did not select if they are not part of your (tradition). Associated feat: Shape Veil.

Capacity Increase

Prerequisites: Caster level 3rd

The maximum amount of essence that can be invested in your essence receptacles increases by 1. You may take this talent an additional time at 9th caster level, and 15th caster level; the effects stack. This talent does not stack with the improved essence capacity class feature or any other ability that grants an increase to the capacity of all of your essence receptacles. When determining your capacity, compare the total capacity increase granted by this talent to the total capacity increase granted by your other abilities and take the higher value.

This talent does stack with any ability that grants a capacity increase to a single veil, or a subset of your normal veils (such as the daevic’s improved passion capacity class feature).

Shape Additional Veil

Prerequisites: Caster level 3rd

When you rest to recover spell points for the day, you may shape an additional veil you know. If you do not have a (tradition) talent, you learn an additional veil of your choice as well. You may take this talent an additional time at 6th caster level and every 3 caster levels thereafter; the effects stack. If you have the ability to shape veils from a non-sphere source, this talent cannot be taken if it would allow you to shape more veils than 1 + 1 per 3 Hit Dice you possess. This restriction does not apply if you only have the ability to shape a specific veil from a racial trait or class feature, or a subset of veils from a class feature, such as the sphere daevic’s passions class feature or the stormbound’s stormweaving ability.

If you take a (tradition) talent, you lose knowledge of the veils you selected with this talent if they are not part of your (tradition).

Essence Talents

Chakra Disruption (essence)

You can invest essence in this talent. By spending 1 spell point as a standard action, you can attempt to disrupt one of the targets chakra slots. Select one of the targets chakra slots (Hands, Head, Feet, Headband, Shoulders, Wrists, Belt, Neck, Body, or Chest) and make a melee touch attack against the target. If you hit, you disrupt the selected chakra slot. Veils shaped in that slot have the saving throws of their abilities reduced by 2 (including the saving throws of any spheres or talents granted by that veil), their maximum essence capacity reduced by 2 (to a minimum of 0), and the target suffers a -2 penalty to attack rolls and CMB when using the abilities of veils shaped in that chakra slot (or the abilities of any spheres granted by that veil, or any weapons created by that veil). These penalties last for 1 round, plus an additional round for each essence invested in this talent. Using this ability multiple times on the same chakra slot resets this ability duration, and worsens the penalties applied by this talent by 1.

Draining Touch (essence)

You can invest essence in this talent. As a standard action, you can make a melee touch attack that drains the essence of a creature. This ability does not provoke attacks of opportunity. If your attack hits, the target takes 1d8 points of untyped damage, plus an additional 1d8 per point of essence invested in this talent, and you gain 1 temporary essence for 1 minute. If the targeted creature has an essence pool of at least 1, you gain an additional point of temporary essence and inflict 1 point of essence burn on the target. You may only have a maximum number of temporary essence from this talent equal to your casting ability modifier.

Emergency Investment (essence)

By spending a spell point as an immediate action, you can choose to either reinvest your essence between your veils and other essence receptacles, or you may use your condense and draw essence ability. If you gain temporary essence as part of using that ability, you may immediately invest it in an essence receptacle.

Entwined Allocation (essence)

Whenever you spend a swift action to use an ability, you may reallocate your essence as part of using that ability. You may still only reallocate your essence as part of using a swift action once per round, even if you can use multiple swift actions each round.

Essence Disruption (essence)

You can invest essence in this talent. You may spend 1 spell point as a standard action to attempt to disrupt the flow of essence within the target. Make a melee touch attack against the target. If you hit, the target cannot invest or reinvest essence to or from their essence receptacles for 1 round, plus 1 round per point of essence invested in this talent (minimum 1 round).

Essence Strike (essence) [strike]

As a standard action, you may make a single weapon attack in combination with an (essence) talent that targets a single creature. This casting cannot be reduced below a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity, unless as usual if making a ranged attack. If the target is struck by the attack, it is also affected by the (essence) talent.

If using a scatter weapon, the (essence) talent only applies to a single target, chosen at the time of the attack.

Essence-Infused Magic (essence)

When you select this talent, choose one magic sphere you possess (except the Veilweaving sphere), and one of the following options: Range, MSB/MSD, or Damage. You cannot use this talent to enhance spheres you only have access to through a veil.

You can invest essence in this talent to improve the effects of the chosen magic sphere, based on your chosen option.

  • Range: You gain a +2 insight bonus per essence invested in this talent to your caster level for the purposes of determining the range of the abilities of the chosen sphere.
  • MSB / MSD: You gain a +1 insight bonus to your MSB and MSD with the chosen sphere per point of essence invested in this talent.
  • Damage: You gain a +2 insight bonus to damage rolls of the abilities of the chosen sphere per point of essence invested in this talent. The damage is of the same type as the cast ability’s damage. If the ability deals multiple types of damage, choose a single damage type for this bonus damage.

This talent can be selected multiple times, allowing you to select a different sphere and option each time you select it. Each selection of this talent counts as a separate essence receptacle. You may choose the same sphere multiple times with additional selections of this talent, choosing an additional option for that sphere each time it is selected.

Essence-Infused Resistance (essence)

You can invest essence in this talent. When you invest essence in this talent, choose a saving throw type (Fortitude, Reflex, or Will) you gain an insight bonus to saving throws of that type equal to the amount of essence invested in this talent. Associated Feats: Chakra-Enhanced Fortitude, Weaver’s Reflexes, Will of the Daeva

Extra Essence (essence)

You gain 1 point of essence. This point is in addition to the normal 1 point of essence granted by taking this (essence) talent. Associated Feat: Extra Essence.

Mage’s Binding (essence)

You can invest non-temporary essence in this talent. Whenever an ability or sphere effect would require an expenditure of spell points, you may bind points of essence invested in this talent to reduce the spell point cost of that ability as you use it. For each essence bound, reduce the spell point cost of the ability by 1 (to a minimum of 0). This reduction only applies to that use of the ability, not towards any other times you use the ability. Essence bound to this talent cannot be burned.

Suppressing Touch (essence)

You can invest essence in this talent. By spending 1 spell point as a standard action, you can make a melee touch attack to attempt to suppress a shaped veil or essence receptacle of the attacked creature. This ability does not provoke attacks of opportunity. If your attack hits, the target must make a Will save or have one of its currently invested essence receptacles of your choice suppressed for 1 round, plus 1 round per point of essence invested in this talent. While the receptacle is suppressed its user does not gain any of the passive benefits of the ability, nor can they use any active abilities granted by it.

Veilwarding (essence)

When you shape your veils for the day, and whenever you reallocate your essence, you may select a number of creatures equal to or less than your casting ability modifier. These creatures take no damage from veils you have shaped, and if they must roll a saving throw against a veil you have shaped they are always treated as if they passed the saving throw when determining its effects.

These creatures retain these benefits until you use this talent again.

Advanced Veilweaving Talents

Bloodbinder

Prerequisites: Caster level 12th, Bind Obscure Chakra, ability to bind Blood veils

You can use your Blood slot to shape and bind Neck, Head, Headband or Body slot veils; however, when using this slot for non-Blood veils, you take a number of points of damage equal to twice the amount of essence invested in the veil each round. You take this damage at the start of your turn, and immediately after any instance you reassign essence.

Essence Charge (essence)

Prerequisites: Caster level 10th

You can utilize your spellcasting potentially to restore your bodily essence. When you spend a minute in meditation to restore a point of essence burn, you may spend 1 spell point to instead restore all of your burned essence during that single minute of meditation.

Improved Shift Veil

Prerequisites: Caster level 10th, Shift Veil, must be able to bind veils to a chakra slot

You no longer provoke attacks of opportunity when using Shift Veil, and veils you shape with that talent can be immediately bound if shaped into a slot that you can bind veils to.

Twin Veil

Prerequisites: Caster level 9th

When you shape your veils for the day, choose a single chakra slot. You can shape two veils to this slot. This talent can be selected multiple times, allowing you to choose a different chakra slot for each time this talent has been selected. Associated feat: Twin Veil.

Tradition Talents

Some advanced Veilweaving talents are marked with (tradition). A character may only possess a single (tradition) talent from the Veilweaving sphere at any time. If a character would gain a (tradition) talent from a class feature while they already possess a (tradition) they may choose to take a Veilweaving of their choice in its place, or they may immediately retrain their existing (tradition) talent.

Daevic’s Tradition (tradition)

Prerequisites: Caster level 5th

You gain knowledge of every veil on the daevic veil list. If you already knew veils from that list, you may choose to replace those veils with other veils of your choice.

Guru’s Tradition (tradition)

Prerequisites: Caster level 5th

You gain knowledge of every veil on the guru veil list. If you already knew veils from that list, you may choose to replace those veils with other veils of your choice.

Vizier’s Tradition (tradition)

Prerequisites: Caster level 5th

You gain knowledge of every veil on the vizier veil list. If you already knew veils from that list, you may choose to replace those veils with other veils of your choice.

Obscure Chakra

Prerequisites: Any (tradition) Veilweaving talent

If your (tradition) grants you knowledge of veils that are shaped to a unique chakra slot (such as ring, or blood) you gain that chakra slot, and can shape veils to that slot. This does not give you any of the benefits or penalties associated with binding veils to that slot that may be associated with the class your (tradition) is associated with (such as the blood bind ability of the daevic).

Bind Obscure Chakra (bind)

Prerequisites: Obscure Chakra, caster level 11th

You may bind veils of the chakra slot granted to you by the Obscure Chakra advanced talent.

Casting Traditions

Akashic Magic

Magic Type: Akashic

  • Casting Ability Modifier: Charisma, Intelligence, or Wisdom
  • Drawbacks: Akashic Spells, Imbued Power x2, Magical Signs
  • Boons: Essence Empowerment, Essence Pool (2 drawbacks)

General Drawbacks

Akashic Spells

Your magic takes the form of briefly lived veils of magic. Whenever a creature is affected by one of your sphere effects, that effect appears as a physical manifestation of magic around the target for the duration of the sphere effect. During this time, a creature can attempt to Sunder your sphere effect.

Your sphere effects have a hardness equal to your caster level + the number of spell points spent on the effect. If one of your sphere effects takes damage equal to twice your caster level from a single Sunder attempt, the effect is immediately dispelled. When making a Sunder attempt against one of your sphere effects, the Sunder is made against your MSD + your casting ability modifier rather than against the targets CMD.

Imbued Power

Your magic must be imbued in a creature for you to affect them. After resting to regain spell points, you must perform a number of rituals to allow yourself to utilize your magic powers on other creatures. As part of a one hour ritual, you may select a number of creatures equal to your casting ability modifier, imbuing them with your power until the next time you rest to regain spell points. If you perform this ritual again before you rest to regain spell points, the original selection of creatures loses the benefits of the ritual. You are always treated as being imbued with your own power for the purposes of this drawback.

Any time you use a sphere effect with a duration longer than instantaneous that targets specific creatures or items, you can only include creatures that are imbued with your power, or items they wield or carry, as its targets. If an effect is applied to an item that leaves an imbued creatures person, the magical effect is suppressed until the creature reacquires the item. The duration of the magical effect expires as normal during this suppression.

You may select this drawback twice. If taken a second time, you may only target imbued creatures with your sphere effects, even for effects that only have a duration of instantaneous. If you cast an effect that affects an area, the effect must be centered on or originate from an imbued creature.

Sphere-Specific Drawbacks

Veilweaving

Essence Binder

You do not gain the ability to learn or shape veils. You must choose an (essence) talent with the bonus talent gained from this drawback.

Limited Essence

You do not gain the ability to condense or draw essence.

Boons

Essence Empowerment

You may use the essence that flows within your body to empower your magical effects. You may invest non-temporary essence in this boon. Whenever you use a sphere effect, you may burn essence invested in this boon to gain a competence bonus to your caster level for that sphere effect equal to the number of points of essence burned. If the sphere effect has a duration longer than instantaneous, you cannot recover the burned essence until the sphere effects duration has expired.

Essence Pool

Your magic gathers within your body, allowing you to utilize it to fuel your akashic abilities. Rather than the normal cost of exchanging 2 general drawbacks, you may exchange between 1 and 5 general drawbacks for this boon, gaining a pool of essence based on the number of general drawbacks exchanged (see Table: Essence Pool Boon). If you have the Advanced Magic Training feat, treat half your combined total racial Hit Dice not granting spherecasting and levels in non-spherecasting classes as levels in casting classes for the purposes of this boon (rounded down, minimum 1).

Table: Essence Pool Boon
Number of Drawbacks Spent Essence Pool
1 +1, +1 per 6 levels in casting classes
2 +1, +1 per 3 levels in casting classes
3 +1 per odd level in a casting class (1, 3, 5, etc.)
4 +1, +1 per 1.5 levels in a casting class (2, 3, 5, 6, etc.)
5 +1 per level in a casting class
